More Bipartisan Bills Passed To Serve Veterans

May 9, 2025

Serving veterans is one of my top priorities in Congress. This week, I was proud to help pass two bipartisan bills that take meaningful steps to achieve that goal - from protecting their health to defending them from financial abuse.

The first bill is called the ACES Act (H.R. 530), which would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to work with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to study cancer rates among veterans who served as aircrew. I flew helicopters in the Army and know the unique risks our airmen and women face. This is a good first step that will help us better understand long-term health outcomes and ensure those affected receive the care they deserve.

The other bill we passed is called the Veterans Fraud Reimbursement Act (H.R. 1912), which would guarantee veterans are fully reimbursed if their VA benefits are stolen by a bad actor. It is absolutely unacceptable for a veteran in our country to be a victim of fraud. This bill would right that wrong by strengthening oversight, ensuring faster repayments, and preventing bad actors from ever accessing a veteran's benefits again.

These are just a few ways I'm working across the aisle to get results for those who've worn the uniform. But there's more work to be done, so I'll keep fighting to make sure their service is honored not just with words, but with action.
