In his opening address, Pablo Berti Oliva, Vienna-based Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Slovenia, emphasised that small island developing states, including Cuba, are experiencing the disproportionately severe impacts of climate change. By the end of the century, Cuba risks losing up to ten per cent of its territory.

Anita Stanković Pavlič, Head of the Department for North and Latin America and the Caribbean, praised Cuba's efforts to bolster resilience and highlighted Slovenia's initiatives to accelerate climate action, including at the upcoming climate change conference in Brazil this November.

The screening of the documentary outlining Cuba's national plan and approaches to addressing the climate change challenges known as Tarea Vida (Life Task) was followed by an interesting discussion with the documentary's co-author, Dr Helen Yaffe from the University of Glasgow, who also underlined the importance and relevance of the topic.

The film evening was organised by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in cooperation with the Vienna-based Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Slovenia and the Slovenian Cinematheque.
