Nursing Class of 2028 sets new enrollment record

Campbell University's Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing has welcomed 57 students into the Class of 2028, the largest incoming class in the school's history.

The new cohort surpasses the previous record set by the 55 students who entered the program as members of the Class of 2027. The continued growth reflects strong interest in Campbell's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and the important role nurses play in meeting the evolving healthcare needs of communities across North Carolina and beyond.

"Welcoming the largest incoming class in our school's history is an exciting milestone and a reflection of the continued strength of our nursing program," said Dr. Pam Edwards, chair and director of the Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing. "These 57 students bring their own experiences, talents and sense of purpose to Campbell. Our faculty and staff look forward to helping them develop the knowledge, clinical skills and confidence they need to become compassionate, highly prepared nurses who will make a difference in the lives of their patients and communities."

Campbell's nursing program prepares students for initial licensure as registered nurses and entry into a profession that requires clinical competence, sound judgment, adaptability and compassion. Through classroom instruction, hands-on training and clinical experiences, students develop the knowledge, skills and values needed to provide safe, high-quality care in an increasingly complex healthcare environment.

As part of Campbell University's College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, nursing students also benefit from opportunities to learn alongside students preparing for careers in pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant practice, public health and other health professions. These interprofessional experiences help students strengthen their communication and teamwork skills while learning to provide coordinated, patient-centered care.

The program places a particular emphasis on rural health and preparing graduates to serve communities where access to healthcare professionals may be limited. Rooted in Campbell's Christian mission, the School of Nursing seeks to develop caring, ethical healthcare providers who approach patients and families with skill, integrity and respect.

Students learn in the 72,000-square-foot Tracey F. Smith Hall of Nursing & Health Sciences on Campbell's Health Sciences Campus. The four-story facility includes classrooms, skills and health assessment laboratories, study spaces and rooms designed for objective structured clinical examinations.

With 57 future nurses beginning this stage of their education together, the Class of 2028 represents both a new milestone for the Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing and a growing commitment to preparing professionals who are ready to serve where they are needed most.
