Regional Wildfire Prevention/Vegetation Management Planned

The Los Altos Hills County Fire District (LAHCFD), in coordination with Caltrans, Palo Alto, and other regional wildfire partners are advancing wildfire prevention/vegetation management along I-280 between Page Mill Road/St. Joseph Avenue undercrossing by reducing hazardous roadside vegetation and strengthening critical evacuation and emergency-access corridors.

The Interstate 280 (I-280) Shaded Fuel Break Connectivity Project, at its northern end, abuts Stanford and Palo Alto-managed lands. Pre-work surveys begins September 14 with vegetation removal planned the week of September 21, continuing in phases through summer 2027.

Community will see periodic shoulder, lane closures and traffic-control activity, generally Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
