Alpine County- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be re-opening eastbound State Route 108 (Sonora Pass) at Kennedy Meadows, as of 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2025. Our Caltrans Long Barn maintenance crew has made significant progress with their winter highway operations along Sonora Pass this week and have deemed it safe for reopening to the traveling public.

Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will display information regarding the pass closures for motorists.

Caltrans urges motorists to use caution and watch for icy road surfaces in the overnight and early morning hours. For helpful information on winter driving conditions visit dot.ca.gov/travel/winter-driving-tips.

Caltrans also reminds motorists to #KnowBeforeYouGo by checking QuickMaps on your mobile device or visit quickmap.dot.ca.gov for real-time highway conditions.

Motorists should expect 5-to-10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. All work is scheduled to occur as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials, and construction-related issues.
