Palantir Technologies (PLTR) stock has gained about 28% over the past three months, against under 4% for the S&P 500, and it still trades roughly 19% below its 52-week high. Over the past twelve months it has returned almost nothing. What could move it from here is work Palantir has already sold and has not yet delivered.
What Has Palantir Sold That It Has Not Delivered?
Palantir signed U.S. commercial contracts worth $2.132 billion across their full terms in the June quarter. One multinational technology company that started with a single operating unit has converted to a three-year deal worth nearly $370 million. Palantir's revenue over the trailing twelve months is $6.16 billion. Total remaining deal value across the company ended the June quarter at $13.1 billion, up from $11.8 billion at the end of March, and remaining performance obligations were $4.9 billion at the end of June. Demand is not the missing piece.
Can Palantir Staff Everything It Has Sold?
By its own account, the limiting factor in turning AI into value is the rate of AIP deployment, and AIP is the platform where customers build and run their own AI agents. That deployment work falls to Palantir's forward deployed engineers, or FDEs. In one head-to-head test at a large technology company, Palantir says, an AI lab's deployment team picked a ticketing automation problem and delivered nothing of value, while Palantir's engineers built agent swarms that recommend pricing and packaging changes for the customer's own customers. That work became a contract worth $10 million a year.
That is why the Fujitsu agreement in September matters. Fujitsu renewed its partnership, signing for Palantir AIP and Palantir Foundry, and will serve as a Global FDE Partner. Putting a partner's engineers into deployment widens the channel that turns a signed contract into revenue.
What Would Show You That Rivals Cannot Copy This?
The honest doubt is durability. Selling sovereign AI, which Palantir says is what enterprises now demand, is a pitch any large software vendor can adopt, and nothing in the June quarter settles whether the advantage is technical or simply early. What customers do with the platform is better evidence. Net dollar retention rose to 157%, from 150% in the March quarter, so the buyers already inside are enlarging what they run.
Whether that durability holds matters soon, because this stock does not re-rate slowly. It has gained more than 30% inside two months on seven occasions since 2020, and six of those runs topped 50%. The cleanest test ahead is the U.S. commercial guide, raised in August to at least $3.424 billion for full year 2026, from at least $3.224 billion three months earlier. If deployment capacity binds, it shows up there first. You can see who else is clearing that bar on our screen of companies with rising guidance.
