Local teens can help shape the future of Siouxland Libraries by serving on the 2026-27 Teen Advisory Board. Siouxland Libraries is accepting applications through Sept. 14 from students who want to help shape library programs and services while gaining volunteer and leadership experience.
The Teen Advisory Board is a volunteer program for students who have completed seventh grade, are enrolled in public, private or home school, and are Siouxland Libraries cardholders. Members meet monthly to provide feedback on teen programs, reading initiatives, library displays and other services.
"The Teen Advisory Board gives students the opportunity to share ideas about library programs and services while gaining volunteer and leadership experience," said Stephanie Bents, supervising librarian for Siouxland Libraries. "The conversations also help library staff understand what teens want from their library and use that feedback when planning programs and services."
Board members may also volunteer at library programs and events throughout the school year, gaining behind-the-scenes experience with library operations and staff.
The board meets from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the Caille Branch, 4100 S. Carnegie Circle, Sioux Falls.
"Being a member of the Teen Advisory Board inspired me to pursue a career in librarianship," said Cheyenne Chontos, director of Harrisburg Community Library. "Through the board, I met people who shared my passion for the library and had the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in my community."
Siouxland Libraries will contact applicants within two weeks after the Sept. 14 application deadline.
