Liccardo Calls for Federal Action After Pacifica Pier Disaster and Announces “Ounce of Prevention Act”

PACIFICA, CA - Today, Congressman Sam Liccardo (CA-16) held a press conference at the site of the Pacifica Pier disaster to call for immediate federal aid for Pacifica and support for the city's call for a state of emergency.

Liccardo was joined by Pacifica City Manager Sean Charpentier, Supervisor Ray Mueller, State Senator Josh Becker, Assemblymember Marc Berman, Pacifica Mayor Christine Boles, Chit Chat Cafe owner Ginger Davis, community members Lisa Hemstalk and Lilia Bae Cadotte, and members of the Pacifica City Council.

Liccardo also announced his new bipartisan legislation, the "Ounce of Prevention" Act, which allows states and local governments to use their Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) allocations for disaster mitigation projects. Currently, the CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT programs are post-disaster programs. This bill allows communities to focus on disaster preparedness before it strikes.

You can find Liccardo's letter to the Trump administration calling for the release of critical Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) funding and for an extension for the Esplanade Infrastructure Preservation project to prevent further erosion in the community here. His letter to Governor Newsom can be found here.
