Celebrating Greensboro's rich literary heritage, the Greensboro Public Library, along with the Greensboro Public Library Foundation and a host of community partners, sponsors the One City, One Book community read every other year. For the fall of 2025, The One City, One Book selection is the memoir My Father's List by Laura Carney.
Fifty-four adventures in six years-that is what journalist Laura Carney embarked on when she discovered her late father's bucket list. My Father's List is the story of how one woman-with the help of family, friends, and even strangers-found the courage to go after her own dreams after realizing those of her free-spirited father. This is a story about family, secrets, and the freedom we feel when we learn to trust again with lessons on how to live fully.
Library Director Brigitte Blanton is looking forward to this year's selection, "I actually listened to My Father's List as an audiobook and the author's voice truly adds a layer of emotional connection to this story. So, I'm very excited that Laura will be here in person for multiple events as she shares this life-changing experience with her father's bucket list."
One City, One Book programming begins in September with lively events, discussions, readings, and more. Author Laura Carney will be on hand for multiple readings and events during the month of October. Since the inaugural One City, One Book in 2002, over 82,000 people have enjoyed meaningful conversations inspired by themes in the selected titles. Community groups who want to participate in One City, One Book are encouraged to email Beth Sheffield. To reserve a book club set please email the book club coordinator.
One City, One Book is funded by the Greensboro Public Library Foundation. The Foundation provides resources beyond public funds to enhance the facilities, programming, technology, book collections, and other materials at the Library.
