September 22, 2025, Peoria, IL - Today, a Peoria County Judge ordered 17-year-old Zymere Wright to remain in custody awaiting trial on Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Wright was charged last week in connection with a July shooting where the victim was shot multiple times during the sale of a pair of shoes. Although Wright is 17, because of his age and the nature of the offense, he is automatically charged as an adult.
On July 19, 2025, around 11:30 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired in the 3000 block of N. Renwood Central Peoria. Shortly after, a 19-year-old male arrived at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim reported to police that he had arranged to sell a pair of shoes to Wright, whom he met through Snapchat. He stated that Wright paid him $200 through Cash App, and he then handed the shoes to Wright. The victim told officers that Wright asked to borrow his phone because his phone had died. The victim reported that when he realized Wright was attempting to reverse the Cash App payment, he tried to take his phone back. At that point, Wright pulled out a gun and shot him.
Wright was arrested on September 18, 2025.
This investigation is ongoing. If you have information regarding this incident, please contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
