Which classes are you taking while studying abroad?

While Studying Abroad, I am taking Modern and Contemporary North American Literature, Content and Language Integrated Learning, and Management and Innovation in Educational Contexts.

What are some cities/countries you've visited outside of your study abroad city?

So far, I have visited Valencia, and I plan to visit Guadalest Valley this weekend to see some waterfalls. This is only my third week here, so I look forward to future trips both in and out of the country. In fact, my friend Brynn Trove, from Lamar, is studying at the Rennes School of Business [in France] and I plan to visit her soon.

What has been the highlight of your trip so far?

The highlight of my trip thus far is all of the friendships I have created. I have met people from all over the world and we have already become the closest of friends. Our relationships are so special because we are all going through a similar experience, and it is so cool to be able to have each other to both understand and be there for one another when things might get tough.

What is something you miss from the U.S.?

Something I miss from the U.S. is definitely my friends and family who are still there, as well as my pets. I also miss some food chains from the U.S. like Wingstop and Raising Canes.

What is something that you've fallen in love with, in Spain, that you can't get in the U.S.?

Something I have fallen in love with while living in Spain is the free spirit environment here. In the U.S., I think we can get caught up in life and get really overwhelmed with our jobs, school, etc., and it has been really refreshing to experience true peacefulness here.

What has been your biggest adjustment to European culture?

The biggest adjustment I have had to make to European culture is ironically what I have also fallen in love with. Since I am used to the American culture, which can be direct and efficient, I had to learn how to be patient and plan ahead if I need something done hastily. Another thing is also public transportation.

How do you think your experience will contribute to your future career in education?

I think this experience will contribute greatly to my future career as an educator by teaching me patience, understanding, and appreciation for diversity. The culture here is unlike anything I have ever experienced, and it is beyond beautiful.

What is your "elevator pitch" to someone who is thinking of studying abroad?

Studyingabroad is a fantastic opportunity to meet special people from all around the world and will challenge you in ways you haven't been challenged before. It will also teach you things about yourself and prove how strong and capable you are. It definitely isn't always easy, especially in the beginning, but the experiences and new relationships make it all worth it.
