WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped introduce legislation to strengthen the United States' supply chain for critical minerals. The Critical Mineral Executive Coordination Act would improve diplomatic training and executive branch coordination, creating a more comprehensive strategy for the acquisition of these important minerals and addressing vulnerabilities in global critical mineral supply chains. Critical minerals and rare earth metals play a key role in most modern technology.
"With the People's Republic of China controlling global critical minerals supply chains, the United States needs a durable strategy to secure reliable access to the resources that power our modern economy," said Senator Rosen. "I am proud to help introduce this bipartisan bill to make sure our government has the training, skill, and supply chains necessary to maintain and grow the United States' critical mineral leadership and ensure we're not just playing catch-up to China."
Senator Rosen has worked to solidify U.S. global leadership in critical minerals and rare earth elements. Earlier this year, she introduced bipartisan legislation to strengthen American STEM education and build a workforce pipeline to support the growing domestic critical mineral mining industry through the creation of a mining Fulbright exchange program. Senator Rosen has also worked to promote responsible hardrock mining practices in Nevada and around the world. In February, Senator Rosen's bill to combat illicit gold mining in the Western Hemisphere passed out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Last Congress, Senator Rosen helped secure a provision in the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act to grow the next generation of mining engineers, promote the use of critical minerals, and develop a secure and reliable supply chain.
