Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center recognized by Forbes among America’s top hospitals

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center was ranked a 5-star hospital in Forbes' inaugural quality ranking of U.S. acute care hospitals.

The Forbes Top Hospitals rating system examines validated and vetted data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and identifies health care quality measures that assess patient outcomes, hospital best practices, value and patient experience.

Among the 5,400 general acute care hospitals that are listed in the CMS Provider Data Catalog, approximately 2,600 met Forbes' inclusion criteria for consideration. Of those, Geisinger Wyoming Valley is among only 259 hospitals that received the 5-star rating nationwide.

Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton received a 4-star rating, which 520 hospitals received across the country.

Preceding the release of the inaugural list, Alison Brodginski, D.O., associate chief medical officer and associate chief quality officer for Geisinger Wyoming Valley, who helps lead quality improvement work at the hospital, attended December's Forbes Healthcare Summit in New York City to join a panel discussion on the topic "What makes a high-quality hospital?"
