D.A. Bragg Announces Trial Conviction In Brutal Intimate-Partner Violence Case

October 16, 2025

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the trial conviction of JERMAINE GABADIAN, 40, for repeatedly sexually and physically assaulting his 36-year-old then-girlfriend over the course of two months. On October 15, 2025, a New York Supreme Court jury convicted GABADIAN of numerous counts including Predatory Sexual Assault, Rape in the First and Third Degrees, Kidnapping in the Second Degree, Strangulation in the Second Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and other charges. He is expected to be sentenced on December 5, 2025.

"Jermaine Gabadian inflicted a horrific cycle of abuse on this survivor, using threats and extreme violence to keep her in fear while he repeatedly sexually assaulted her over the course of two months," said District Attorney Bragg. "I commend this survivor for her incredible bravery in reporting these crimes and testifying at trial for six days.

"While the brutal violence Gabadian exhibited is distinctive, his use of coercion and control to prevent the survivor from leaving is all-too common. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we are reiterating that crimes committed against a partner are just as serious as crimes committed against a stranger. Our Special Victims Division and Survivor Services Bureau have trauma-informed staff who can help anyone caught in a cycle of abuse. Please call us at 212-335-9373."

As proven at trial, GABADIAN met the survivor in July 2022, and immediately began manipulating her. He moved into her apartment without her permission on September 30, 2022. That same night, he raped her as she told him no. GABADIAN's violence escalated within days.

On October 4, 2022, GABADIAN pressed a kitchen knife to her body and made graphic violent threats, including describing how he would twist the knife to puncture her organs and talking about serial killers who have sex with the corpses of their victims. He told her he wanted to have sex with her "one more time before you die," before pushing her onto the bed and raping her while holding the knife to her body. He then followed her into the shower, where he sliced her skin with the knife. When the survivor called 911, GABADIAN kicked in the bathroom door and threatened to harm her family unless she sent the responding police officers away.

A few days later, the survivor established a safety plan and a codeword with her best friend. If the survivor texted asking about her friend's cat, the friend would know to call 911. She also contacted a victim advocacy organization to begin the process of securing an Order of Protection.

On October 18, 2022, GABADIAN found out about her Order of Protection petition. He threatened to harm the survivor and her family, as well as the case worker's family, until the survivor withdrew the petition. That night, he strangled her, and then forced her to record a video saying she was the manipulator and the one in the wrong, which he repeatedly threatened to release if she tried to leave or report the abuse.

On October 20, 2022, he took her phone away and prevented her from leaving the apartment for approximately two days. On October 22, 2022, the survivor was able to text her friend the codeword using her laptop. She then attempted to lock GABADIAN out of the apartment, but he pushed back in and strangled her, continuing to threaten her life and her families' lives. Meanwhile, her friend received the codeword and called 911. Police arrived, and GABADIAN again threatened the lives of the survivor's family if she made a report. The survivor told the police about some of the abuse, but they did not make an arrest that day.

The survivor stayed with her friend as long as possible before returning to the apartment with GABADIAN, who had been sending threatening and manipulative texts throughout their time apart.

On November 28, 2022, the survivor had a job interview. When she returned to the apartment, GABADIAN accused her of sleeping with other men. He hit her in the throat with the side of his hand, slapped her in the face, and strangled her. He then told her he had a gun in the apartment and would shoot her, forcing her to kneel on the bathroom floor with her head over the bathtub, saying in substance that it would be easy to clean up her murder because her blood would run down the drain.

The next day, the survivor was able to call 911, but GABADIAN fled before police arrived.

GABADIAN continued to text and call her, alternately saying he loved her, offering her money, and threatening her, until he was finally arrested on December 10, 2022.
