Lee University is hosting its Senior Art Showcase in the Squires Library Fine Art Gallery, which will run through April 8. There will be an opening reception held on Thursday, April 3, at 5 p.m.
The seniors whose work will be on display in the exhibition are Mariana Michalek, Kamryn Osborne, Sylvie Patty, and Matt Preeble.
"I am really proud of our students' work and the authenticity behind it," said Victoria Phillips, visiting assistant professor of art. "Kamryn's magazine is a great example of how art and design can work together to create a cohesive and compelling visual experience that is not only educational but also visually intriguing. We are so excited to be able to share their work with the community and our Lee family."
The showcase displays original bodies of thematic work from graduating art majors. The artists' statements are posted with each work to give viewers a sense of the artist's vision and methods.
"Guided by my faith, I see this project as an opportunity to foster awareness, compassion, and hope," said Osborne. "My magazine explores mental health in modern society through hand-drawn illustrations, intentional layouts, and thoughtful typography. Every design choice - from composition to color - aims to uplift and encourage."
There will be many different forms of art displayed, such as graphic design, paintings, ceramics, photography, digital media, and more.
"I created the pieces for this show around the theme of an alien world," said Patty. "I enjoy exploring nature, so with this series, I drew on both real aspects of nature as well as my imagination to create fanciful objects. I tapped into the curiosity I feel when learning about God's creation."
The Senior Art Showcase is free and open to the public during regular operating hours of the library, which can be found by visiting libguides.com/homepage.
This is the first of two Senior Art Shows with the second show starting on April 24.
