USDA Announces $2 Million Grant for Road Salt Storage Facility

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Michigan State Director Dom Restuccia today announced a $2 million grant to construct a centralized storage facility for the Mason County Road Commission.

"The Trump-Vance Department of Agriculture is making historic investments in rural Michigan communities," said Restuccia. "County road commissions do not get the attention they deserve, but they are vital to ensuring safe travel around the state. Thanks to Congressman Moolenaar's work securing this appropriation, this investment will benefit Mason County motorists for years to come."

USDA provided funding through Rural Development's Community Facilities Program . The project includes a 32,000-square-foot concrete structure with a clear-span fabric roof designed to house salt storage, chemical storage tanks, and mixed-material bays. The facility will allow the road commission to consolidate essential operations that support the maintenance of publicly owned roadways, bridges, and culverts throughout the county.

Rural Development's Community Facilities Programs offer direct loans, loan guarantees and grants to develop or improve essential public services and facilities in communities across rural America. These investments strengthen critical community infrastructure, enhance quality of life, and help rural towns attract and retain businesses and services.
