July 9, 2025, Peoria, IL - Today, a Peoria County judge ordered Lamar Cagle to remain in custody while awaiting trial on First-Degree Murder charges. Cagle was charged last week in connection with the death of 20-year-old Teron M. Scott Jr., who was shot and killed nearly three weeks ago in South Peoria. Although Cagle is 17 years old, due to his age and the nature of the charge, he is automatically charged as an adult.
On Friday, June 20, at around 2:45 a.m., police responded to a car crash in the 300 block of S. MacArthur Highway. Upon arrival, officers found Scott in the rear driver's seat of a car that had crashed into a tree at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Scott sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead on the scene. Additionally, officers learned of a second gunshot victim who arrived at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers obtained surveillance footage showing the suspect vehicle driving recklessly to catch up to the victim's car and crossing into the oncoming lane of traffic to pull alongside the victim's car before the shots began. Officers identified the suspect vehicle as belonging to Christopher Adams. During Adam's interview with police, he admitted to being the driver when his passengers fired guns out of his car. Adams identified Cagle as the front passenger and Kamereon Bell as the rear passenger.
Bell and Adams have previously been charged with first-degree murder and are currently in custody while awaiting their trials.
