Daily updates: delays in waste pickup, make-up service underway now

ANAHEIM, Calif . (July 13, 2025) - Make-up waste collection continues this weekend for missed pickups that started on Wednesday.

Sunday make-up service with about 30 drivers is prioritizing waste and organics bins starting with Wednesday routes, the first impacted, followed by those from Thursday in central-east and Friday in Anaheim Hills.

We saw residential service throughout Wednesday's downtown routes on Saturday, though with limited drivers and many area homes still uncollected.

What to do

Leave your uncollected bins out for make-up service.

If you're in an association community, check with your management for guidance.

For make-up service, one truck may collect both waste and organics bins, which are priority. Recycling bins may not be collected as drivers focus on waste and organics.

Drop-off location

Should you not want to continue to wait for make-up service, on Monday you can take waste to Republic in the Anaheim Canyon. Bring identification or a utility bill with an Anaheim address for proof of residency.

Republic Services CVT Disposal Center
2740 E. Coronado St.
Monday-Friday: 5 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturday, July 12: 5 a.m.-2 p.m.

Please note you may encounter picketers at Republic.

Bulky items

While delayed a day, bulky item pickups are underway by Republic and contract provider Junkluggers.

Why?

Missed pickups are due to labor issues at contract service provider Republic Services.

There is no strike or contract dispute here in Anaheim .

The delays are related to a strike in the Boston area with visiting union members and some local members picketing in support of the East Coast strike.

Picketing continues on Sunday, though less than days before.

Anaheim's contract with Republic started in 2021 and runs through 2031 and provides fair compensation as part of terms willingly agreed to by the Teamsters union.

Contingency operations

Republic is currently working under contingency plan operations in Anaheim.

More drivers are working each day, including weekends. But operations are still not at full staff.

You might also see different types of trucks making pickups, including Junkluggers or different types of Republic trucks.

Republic managers and supervisors are out making collections.

Anaheim Public Works is servicing bus stops and other sites to free up Republic drivers for neighborhoods.

What we're doing

The city is urging Republic Services to return to store regular service and make up missed pickups as soon as possible.

We know how frustrating missed service is, especially given past service issues with Republic, which resulted in $500,000 in fines from the city.

Each day, including weekends, we are holding update calls with Republic and expressing the frustration we are hearing from residents.

We are evaluating how missed pickups are being handled and made up, as required under Republic's contract, to determine how best to address customer billing amid the service disruptions.

Who to call

You can reach out directly to Republic with complaints, concerns and questions: (714) 238-3300.

For questions regarding Anaheim bills, call (714) 765-6883.
