The MetroHealth System today announced that it is centralizing its trauma services at its nationally recognized Main Campus Level I Adult Trauma Center on Cleveland's Near West Side.
The streamlining of trauma care will mean that starting September 2, 2025, the System will transition its Level III trauma services at its Parma Medical Center on Snow Road to its Main Campus Level I Trauma Center five miles away.
The Emergency Department at MetroHealth's Parma Medical Center, which was recently expanded, will remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, the Parma facility will continue to offer a wide array of primary and specialty care services, including outpatient-surgical services, a walk-in pediatric clinic, same-day lab services, as well as a seven-day-a-week pharmacy.
"Parma is Ohio's seventh-largest city, and MetroHealth's commitment to its residents is unshakable. We are in Parma to stay … and to serve," said Craig Bates, MD, EMS Division Director of MetroHealth's Department of Emergency Medicine.
"As Northeast Ohio's most experienced trauma center, MetroHealth is committed to delivering expert specialized care at our patients' most vulnerable moments," Dr. Bates said. "This is our promise to the community. Focusing trauma services at Main Campus allows us to continue providing the best possible trauma care at our nationally recognized Level I Adult Trauma Center at Main Campus."
MetroHealth's decision to consolidate trauma services was driven by data and grounded in what is best for its patients, the System's EMS partners and MetroHealth's long-term ability to provide lifesaving trauma care to our community.
During medical emergencies, expertise and experience matter. MetroHealth consistently reports one of the lowest trauma mortality rates in the nation, according to the Trauma Quality Improvement Program, an initiative of the American College of Surgeons.
Verified since 1992, MetroHealth's Main Campus Level I Trauma Center has been the best and most trusted place in Northeast Ohio to receive care after critical and life-threatening injuries. Thousands of lives have been saved by MetroHealth's trauma team, the most experienced in our region.
