UNESCO announces new appointments to the UNESCO Global Geoparks and International Geoscience Programme Councils

is an endowed Peiyang Professor at the School of Earth System Science, Tianjin University, China. With 36 years of experience in active tectonics, tectonic geomorphology, earthquake mechanisms, seismic risk, and cascading hazards including liquefaction, landslides, and floods, his work integrates field geology, remote sensing, GIS, GNSS geodesy, and seismology. He has served on the Fall Meeting Committee of the American Geophysical Union and on China's Earthquake Prediction Committee, which prepares the annual national seismic hazard report for the State Council.

UNESCO and IUGS extend their heartfelt thanks to the outgoing Council members whose terms will conclude in December 2026: Ms Gloria Prieto Rincón (Colombia, Earth Resources) and Ms YoungHee Kim (Republic of Korea, Geohazards) for their exceptional contributions to the IGCP.
