NIS2 Cooperation Group adopts common templates for incident reporting

Today, the EU took a significant step towards simplifying compliance for companies as the NIS Cooperation Group - comprising of EU Member States, the European Commission, and the EU Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) - agreed on common templates for incident reporting.

The adoption took place during the 39th Plenary meeting in Cyprus. These templates provide a clear, uniform format for reporting cyber incidents. This major simplification measure will reduce efficiently the administrative burden of companies.

Common templates are just the first step of paving the way for even greater simplification. They align with broader EU efforts, including the proposed single-entry point for incident reporting under the Digital Omnibus, ensuring businesses benefit from a seamless, user-friendly system for fulfilling their cybersecurity obligations.

By harmonising reporting fields across the EU, compliance will be simpler for businesses and the ensuring consistency and reducing complexity in fulfilling their NIS2 obligations and it will help ultimately strengthen their cybersecurity resilience.

As a next step, the European Commission plans to adopt these templates through an implementing act, making them mandatory for all Member States. This will establish a unified, efficient, and user-friendly incident reporting framework across the EU.
