Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will participate in the Summit on European Digital Sovereignty in Berlin on 18 November 2025. The meeting will be attended by policy-makers and representatives of businesses and academia.

The speakers will include Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, President of France Emmanuel Macron and Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Henna Virkkunen.

Minister Ranne will participate in a lunch discussion that will focus on topical issues concerning Europe's digital sovereignty. Digital sovereignty refers to the ability of states and organisations to control their digital resources, such as data, infrastructure and services.

"Europe's digital sovereignty is based on the competitiveness of the European Union. The EU must build technological leadership, enable growth and innovation, and strengthen security. Data has critical significance, as it acts as fuel for technological development," Minister Ranne says.

Minister Ranne will also meet the Irish Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation Niamh Smyth.
