City of Taunton Senior Curbside Trash Bag Program


The City of Taunton's Free Senior Curbside Trash Bag Program continued into the 2025 year for Taunton seniors age 65 and older, living in a single through four-family residence. The City's program offers both a six-month bag pick-up service and a twelve-month service bag pick-up service depending on program eligibility. Participating residents will pick-up their free sleeves of City of Taunton Trash Bags at the Department of Public Works (two sleeves per month). Limit one qualifying senior per residence.

Below are the details of the two programs:

  • Six (6) months worth of free trash bags per household per year eligibility requirements:
    • Taunton Residents 65 years of age or older
    • Living in a single through four-family residence in Taunton
  • Twelve (12) months worth of free trash bag per household per year eligibility requirements:
    • Taunton Residents 65 years of age or older
    • Living in a single through four-family residence in Taunton
    • Participate in one of three economic relief programs:
      • City's Senior Tax Exemption Program OR
      • MA Dept. Transitional Assistance Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (MA DTA SNAP) OR
      • MA Dept. Housing & Community Development Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

To apply, residents must complete an application and return it to the Department of Public Works at 90 Ingell Street: Application

Applicants are required to provide proof of age and residency (valid MA Driver's license, MA State ID card, birth certificate, utility bill, etc.)

For applicants who participate in the City's Senior Tax Exemption program, MA DTA SNAP or LIHEAP, proof of program participation will be required.

Once approved, residents will be responsible for picking up two (2) sleeves of trash bags at DPW per month. Sleeves will only be distributed to the approved resident and identification will be required at time of pick-up.
