Work at rail crossing at Illinois 78 in Kewanee begins Oct. 12

KEWANEE - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, Illinois 78 (Main Street) at the BNSF Railway crossing will be closed for repairs on Monday, Oct. 12. The crossing is between Fifth Street and Loomis Street.

Work will remove and replace the at-grade crossing and repave the approaches. The work is anticipated to be completed within 10 days. Traffic will follow a posted detour.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
