NERC Files Order No. 901 Milestone 3 Projects with FERC

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, NERC filed a suite of Reliability Standards with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in response to the Milestone 3 directives from Order No. 901, marking a critical step forward in enhancing grid reliability through improved model validation and data sharing requirements for inverter-based resources (IBRs).

Milestone 3 projects-Project 2020-06 - Verifications of Models and Data for Generators, Project 2021-01 - System Model Validation with IBRs, Project 2022-02 - Uniform Framework Model Framework for IBR, and Project 2022-04 - Electromagnetic Transient Modeling-were re-scoped through targeted Standard Authorization Requests to directly address FERC's directives under Order No. 901. The proposed standards were adopted by NERC's Board of Trustees on October 31, 2025.

Today's filings reflect significant industry-wide collaboration and technical work. We would like to thank our stakeholders for their active engagement and contributions to this important effort. Their expertise and dedication continue to drive meaningful progress in ensuring a reliable and secure bulk power system today and in the future.

NERC continues to develop Reliability Standards that address multiple aspects of IBR planning in response to the final Milestone 4 directives from Order No. 901, due November 4, 2026.
