eco’s Managing Director Rabe on the Draft Bill for the German EnEfG Amendment

Regarding the draft bill for the amendment to the German Efficency Act (EnEfG), Alexander Rabe, Managing Director of eco - Association of the Internet Industry, says the following on behalf of the Alliance for the Strengthening of Digital Infrastructures in Germany:

"The trend is positive, but on some points we would have liked to see a bit more consistency in the adjustments. For example, the Design PUE would also make sense for existing data centres, as it would create a uniform basis. It is regrettable that the flat-rate ERF values (10, 15, 20%) are still included in the law, as these are unsuitable for advancing waste heat utilisation in practice due to their project/location dependency. We also find it counterproductive that the draft requires IT operators to support data centre operators in collecting IT performance data. Instead, the goal must be to significantly streamline the documentation and reporting obligations, thereby creating genuine relief for those involved."
