The City of Key West is proud to announce the promotion of Sheetal Almas to Planner I.
Almas joined the City of Key West in 2023 as the Adaptation Coordinator. With a background in environmental studies, specializing in environmental management and policy development, she also holds multiple certifications in sustainable energy and climate change.
Formerly the lead coordinator of the City's decarbonization initiatives and its 10-Year Energy Resilience and Cost Savings Plan, Almas spearheaded strategies that improved energy efficiency and boosted resilience across the island. She also created the City's Green E-Newsletter and hosted "Green Drinks," a monthly social event that blended education, community engagement, and networking.
She served on the steering committee for the City's 10-Year Climate Adaptation Plan, helping shape long-term strategies for local climate resilience. Before joining the City, she worked as a Climate Impact Researcher for the National Parks Conservation Association, conducting research in 14 national parks across the mid-Atlantic.
