The agreements between the George Washington University (GW), Medical Faculty Associates, Inc. (MFA) and Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS) to transition clinical services at GW Hospital, Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center and affiliated outpatient locations to Capital Medical Group have been executed and are in effect. Capital Medical is a new physician-led nonprofit subsidiary of UHS.
The conclusion follows two months of extensive planning and preparations by GW, MFA and UHS to support patients, clinicians, staff and learners. The majority of MFA physicians and staff are transitioning to Capital Medical, helping to ensure continuity of care with many of the same providers in familiar locations-including MFA's 2300 M St. NW location, which has been acquired by Capital Medical as part of the transaction.
As a result of the transaction:
This transaction marks an important step forward for patient care and academic medicine across the Washington, D.C., region. The transition to this new structure provides greater financial and operational certainty and creates opportunities to expand inpatient, outpatient and community-based care to meet the evolving needs of patients and the communities served by GW Hospital, Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center and Capital Medical providers and staff.
