Custer Parkway Work Near Aldridge Elementary Scheduled to Begin in Mid-June

Beginning in mid-June, weather permitting, crews working on the Custer Parkway Improvement Project are scheduled to begin pavement replacement on Segment 3 between Pleasant Valley Lane and Renner Road. This work will focus on the southbound lanes of Custer Parkway near Aldridge Elementary School, including the Pleasant Valley Lane intersection, corner ramps and sidewalk reconstruction.

During construction, all traffic between Pleasant Valley Lane and Renner Road will shift to the newly constructed northbound lanes, with one lane maintained in each direction. Bike lanes will be closed, and on-street parking will be prohibited within active construction zones.

This summer, crews will reconstruct the southbound lanes, with work expected to be complete before the start of the PISD school year, depending on weather conditions. This work schedule has been done in coordination with Aldridge Elementary to minimize disruption.

The Custer Parkway Improvement Project includes full reconstruction from Campbell Road to Renner Road, with replacement of pavement, water and sanitary sewer systems, storm sewer enhancements near Fall Creek Drive, sidewalk repairs where needed, new LED streetlights with underground conduit, and new traffic signals at Custer Parkway and Renner Road. At approximately 4.2 lane-miles, it is the longest stretch of street reconstruction included in the 2021 Bond Program.

Utility work and pavement replacement continue in phases along the corridor. Sanitary sewer and storm drain replacement between Renner Road and Campbell Road are substantially complete, and crews are continuing waterline work near the CPKC railroad crossing between Cap Rock Drive and Canyon Creek Drive. Temporary light poles and fixtures south of Lookout Drive will be removed by Oncor crews as needed, and permanent streetlights will be installed during the final phases of construction.

The overall Custer Parkway Improvement Project is expected to be complete by the end of this year.
