GCSU to Delay Start to 10 a.m. on Monday, March 16

Dear Campus Community:

Updated forecast models from the National Weather Service project Baldwin County to experience the most severe storm impacts in the early morning hours of Monday, March 16. To ensure the safety of all Georgia College community members, the university will delay the opening of campus until 10 a.m.

This delayed start includes all campus operations (including the Montessori Academy) and applies to all staff members. Due to spring break, no classes are currently scheduled throughout the week, and the university's museums are already closed.

Baldwin County is currently expected to see the most severe storm impacts - including wind gusts up to 75+ mph, hail and possible tornadoes - between 5-10 a.m. Continue to monitor all university communication channels for updates and additional changes heading into the morning.

If further changes to the storm's trajectory necessitate additional changes to university operations, GCSU leadership is prepared to communicate those changes to campus before 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Be Weather Aware Ahead of Incoming Storm System

Dear Campus Community:

GCSU leadership is currently monitoring an incoming storm system that is projected to sweep severe weather throughout parts of north and central Georgia beginning late Sunday night and continuing through midday Monday.

Although current models remain uncertain, a line of thunderstorms - with wind gusts up to 70 mph, hail and possible tornadoes - is expected to begin moving across central/east-central Georgia Sunday afternoon, with potential impacts to Baldwin County. The storm will be followed by a cold front which is expected to bring freezing temperatures to our area Monday and Tuesday night.

More information on the storm's path and potential impacts will be released as necessary; in the meantime, please be aware of the situation and plan to monitor university communication channels to stay abreast of any operational changes that may become necessary.

• A severe weather watch is issued when thunderstorms or tornados are possible in a given area.
• A severe weather warning is issued when thunderstorms, including hail and/or strong winds, or tornadoes have been reported nearby.

Review shelter in place protocols online.
