Ohio 4-H Spark EXPO returns to inspire the next generation of professionals

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Registration is now open for the Ohio 4-H Spark EXPO, offering high school students a unique opportunity to explore a variety of career pathways on June 12-14 at The Ohio State University Columbus campus.

"Spark EXPO offers students an invaluable chance to discover and explore career opportunities through engaging, hands-on experiences that inspire growth and confidence," said Margo Overholt-Seckel, program manager for Ohio 4-H Workforce Development and Pathways. "It's exciting to see participants uncover new interests, build essential skills, and form connections that set them on the path to a successful future."

Hosted by Ohio 4-H youth development, part of Ohio State's College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), the event provides participants with the opportunity to engage with industry experts, faculty, and staff, while also touring the Columbus campus and CFAES' Wooster campus.

Designed for students entering ninth and tenth grades, the Spark EXPO emphasizes real-world learning experiences, connecting students with hands-on activities across Ohio State's campuses. The program is open to all students, and participants do not need to be members of 4-H to attend.

Participants will:

  • engage in career pathway workshops, exploring fields ranging from biosciences and engineering to food systems and health sciences
  • experience campus life by staying in Ohio State residence halls, interacting with college students and staff, and gaining insight into life after high school
  • build leadership and workforce skills, developing communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities through interactive programming

"Programs like the Spark EXPO are vital in preparing young people to be beyond ready for work and life in a rapidly changing world," said Jeff McCutcheon, associate professor, interim state 4-H leader, and assistant director of OSU Extension , CFAES' outreach arm that operates Ohio 4-H. "By combining hands-on learning with access to mentors and resources, this event gives students the tools they need to envision their future and start working toward it.

"It's not just about career exploration; it's about empowering youth to take meaningful steps toward their goals."

Registration for the 2025 Spark EXPO closes April 1. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. Scholarships are available to ensure access for all interested students.
