Suspicious Death Investigation: C25-282397

On November 26th, 2025 the Winnipeg Police Service reported on the discovery of partial human remains that had been located in a rear lane in the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue. The investigation was considered to be a suspicious death, and the Homicide Unit assumed the investigation.

The partial remains have now been identified through DNA testing as Leah Faye KEEPER, who was 32 years old at the time she went missing. Leah was reported missing on November 21st, 2023. Leah was born in Little Grand Rapids First Nation, and raised in Sagkeeng First Nation.

The Winnipeg Police Service has notified Leah's family of this tragic news, and Chief Bowers is in the process of reaching out to community leaders.

Our thoughts are with Leah's family and loved ones, as well as the indigenous community.

Discovery of partial human remains: C25-282397

On November 23, 2025, around 1:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of potential human remains discovered in a backlane in the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue.

North District officers secured the scene and Forensic Identification officers assumed care of the remains.

Following an autopsy, the partial remains were confirmed to be human.

The Homicide Unit is investigating this as a suspicious death. There is no further information about the deceased person's identity at this time.
