Public Notice: Overnight Road Closure on Wabash Avenue for Sewer Main Rehabilitation
Lakeland, FL (August 4, 2026) - The City of Lakeland Water Utilities Department will begin overnight sewer rehabilitation work near the intersection of Wabash Avenue and George Jenkins Boulevard on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
To safely complete the work, Wabash Avenue will be closed on the north side of the George Jenkins Boulevard intersection from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Lane closures and detour signage will be in place throughout the work zone.
Through traffic traveling on Wabash Avenue between George Jenkins Boulevard and Memorial Boulevard will be detoured via Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Traffic on Wabash Avenue south of the intersection will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
This is the first of several overnight work periods needed to complete the rehabilitation. Additional overnight closures are anticipated for Wednesday, August 12, and Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., pending progress on the initial phase of work. A separate update will be provided once those dates are confirmed.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, use caution when traveling through the area, and follow all posted traffic control devices and detour signage.
