Bird Call Exhibit open through March 20

February 11, 2026

The multi-artist exhibition Bird Call is on display in the Dakota State University First Bank & Trust Gallery now through March 20.

Many of the artists participating in this exhibition are DSU faculty members. The artists' works on display aim to interpret birds, their calls, and the way these signals register within human experience.

This exhibit examines avian presence through ecological reality and cultural construct. Birds have been shaped by millions of years of evolutionary adaption to changing environments. This unique history has led to humans seeing birds as mythic creatures and mediators between human and non-human worlds that use their calls for signs of communication and environmental continuity.

The artists whose work is on display:

  • Chad Nelson, Sioux Falls, South Dakota
  • Daniel Welynn, Dakota State University
  • Joseph Staudenbaur, Dakota State University
  • Wendy Romero, Dakota State University
  • Stacey Berry, Dakota State University
  • Alan Montgomery, Dakota State University
