Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi Visits Honduras

From April 8 to 10, 2025, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi visited Honduras and met respectively with Honduran President Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento and Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina García, exchanging views on deepening bilateral relations and practical cooperation, among other topics. Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Honduras Tan Minxing attended the meeting.

Qiu Xiaoqi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Honduras two years ago, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, bilateral political mutual trust has been continuously strengthened, practical cooperation has been constantly deepened, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges have been rich and colorful. Bilateral relations have shown broad prospects and vigorous vitality. Facts have proven that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Honduras serves the fundamental interests of the people of both countries. China is willing to work with Honduras to jointly implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and promote bilateral relations to a new level.

President Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento thanked Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi for attending the 9th summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, and expressed Honduras' willingness to deepen political mutual trust with China, strengthen practical cooperation, and promote the in-depth development of bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina García reiterated Honduras' commitment to the one-China principle, highly praised the outcomes in cooperation between the two countries in various fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations, and expressed Honduras' willingness to further strengthen strategic synergy with China, enhance the level of cooperation, and bring more benefits to the people of both countries.
