The Wall Street Journal Leadership Institute recently spoke with Direct Relief CEO Amy Weaver about her transition to nonprofit work from her role as CFO of Salesforce. The conversation was part of the Wall Street Journal CFO Council Summit in Palo Alto, California, on March 24, 2026.
The interview took place with Wendy Bounds, WSJ Leadership Institute SVP and Head of Content, and covered a host of topics, including career pivots from Salesforce to Direct Relief. Common denominators like financial diligence, operational excellence, innovation, and trust are the same, Weaver said.
"What's so different [about Direct Relief] is the sense of mission," she said. "Waking up every day at a place where the mission is to get medicine, to get care to people who are in the middle of emergencies or poverty or a war zone is just an incredible, incredible motivator."
