Are there new requirements for budget meeting notices

"We're preparing the notice for our next commissioners court meeting. Didn't the 89th Legislature add new requirements for certain meeting notices?"

Are there new requirements for budget meeting notices?

HB 1522 adds Subsections (c) to Government Code §551.043. This new subsection requires a notice for a meeting at which the commissioners court will discuss or adopt its budget to include: (1) a physical copy of the proposed budget unless the county has made it clearly accessible on the home page of the county's internet website; and (2) a taxpayer impact statement showing, for the median-valued homestead property, a comparison of the property tax bill in dollars for the current fiscal year to an estimate of the property tax bill for the upcoming fiscal year. This bill is effective Sept. 1, 2025.
