BUT2030 LAUNCHES MULTICULTURAL D&I ASSESSMENT TOOL

Belgian companies now have a practical tool to measure multicultural inclusion and define next steps

After more than five years of building a cross-sector community around multicultural diversity and inclusion, Business Uniting Talents 2030 (BUT2030) has reached a significant milestone. The platform has launched its Multicultural D&I Assessment Tool - giving Belgian companies a structured, evidence-based way to understand where they stand and what to do next.

The context matters. Non-EU nationals in Belgium experience an employment rate 20 percentage points lower than native Belgians. Around 50% of those who do find work are overqualified for their roles. Belgium ranks among the worst in the EU for perceived workplace discrimination, with 34% of workers from non-EU backgrounds reporting it directly. At the same time, 72% of Belgian employers say they struggle to fill vacancies.

BUT2030, powered by CSR Europe and supported by the King Baudouin Foundation and the Prince Philippe Fund, was created to help companies and sector federations close that gap - not through pledges alone, but through practical tools and shared accountability.

The MD&I assessment tool is now live in English, French, and Dutch. It covers 16 dimensions across three sections: strategic commitment and accountability, managerial and HR processes, and measurement and reporting.

Companies receive a personalised 10-page report with scores across six dimensions, a maturity rating, and tailored recommendations based on their results. At the end of the cycle, participating companies will also receive a benchmarking sectoral and cross-sectoral report. Data is handled with full GDPR compliance.

Twelve sector federations are engaged in the current phase (including VBO-FEB, Agoria, Comeos, Embuild, Essenscia, Febelfin, Federgon, and Fevia), and more than 50 companies have already engaged with BUT2030 since its origin. The programme's third phase runs to 2028, with a goal of building a Coalition of the Willing with 100 companies and their federations in time for Belgium's 200th anniversary in 2030.
