The Operational Experts Group (OEG) Meeting of the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI), held under Argentina's chairmanship, took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship in Buenos Aires on 25-26 June 2026. OEG members sent representatives from foreign affairs ministries, customs administrations, security and defense authorities, among others.
The OEG has 21 members and plays a leading role in the Initiative and serve as a forum to discuss and develop concepts to further the PSI.
Over the course of the two-day meeting, participants engaged in nine plenary sessions addressing issues related to advancing PSI and expanding international cooperation to interdict transfers of weapons of mass destruction, their means of delivery and related materials, while conducting an in-depth examination of the multiple security dimensions involved. Particular attention was devoted to global proliferation concerns, maritime interdiction operations, disposition of seized cargo, and international interagency cooperation.
The 2026 OEG meeting marked the first time the group has convened in Latin America, had robust participation from capitals, and broke new ground by including briefings addressing the challenges and opportunities to PSI posed by sensitive technologies. OEG participants reaffirmed the PSI s foundational role in global counterproliferation efforts and agreed to convene again in 2027.
