DAAS Harlem Nights Winter Gala 2025

On December 12, the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences (DAAS) hosted its Harlem Nights Winter Gala at the historic Masonic Temple. Every ticket purchased, along with any additional gifts, directly benefited the Stable Foundation Programs. These programs provide essential housing assistance for families experiencing homelessness and fund the eighth-grade tour to historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), helping students gain invaluable exposure to higher education options.

The theme, Harlem Nights, transported guests back to the glamor and elegance of the roaring 20s - the Jazz Age. Inside the meticulously decorated Crystal Ballroom, a wonderful buffet-style dinner was served, offering a variety of delicious options. Staff members took part in a lively "best dressed" contest, showcasing their flair for fashion, and the evening was rounded off with music and dancing, making it a truly festive occasion.

Before dinner, Monica McLeod, chief academic officer of DAAS, took the stage to honor DAAS staff and leaders for their hard work and unwavering dedication to the Academy's continued success. Lawrence Hood, CEO of DAAS, then expressed gratitude toward Oakland University and other sponsors for their support and partnership with the Academy, as well as praising the staff for their amazing commitment, which has had a lasting impact on students both behaviorally and academically.

The winter gala was a time to celebrate all of the Academy's major achievements while looking forward to continuous learning and thriving. A special thanks to our friends at Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences for a beautiful night!
