Colorado Democrats Congratulate Melat Kiros on Election to Congress

DENVER - The Colorado Democratic Party congratulates Melat Kiros on her election to represent Colorado's 1st Congressional District.

Kiros made a more affordable Denver the focus of her campaign, advocating for Medicare for All, affordable housing and universal child care. An immigrant and attorney, she connected those priorities to her own experience growing up in Colorado's immigrant communities. She built a campaign around the belief that working people deserve more from their government and should have a greater say in its decisions.

"Representative-elect Kiros gave people a reason to believe they could demand more from Washington and help change it," said Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib. "She spoke directly about the rent people cannot afford and the health care and child care they need. Her victory belongs to the volunteers and neighbors who believed in that vision and worked to make it possible. We're proud to congratulate her as she takes that fight to Congress."
