Underground Utilities Conversion Project

As part of the City of Destin's Utility Underground Conversion Project, construction activities will begin which will affect pedestrian access along the north side of US Highway 98, heading west to Marler Bridge. Starting Tuesday, November 12th, construction activity will commence on US Highway 98 and Beach Drive extending to the William T. Marler Bridge.

There will be temporary closures of sidewalks along North US Highway 98, which will affect pedestrian access. Pedestrians are advised to use alternate routes to avoid the construction zone. Safety signage and barriers will be in place to ensure pedestrian safety and all efforts will be made to minimize disruptions.

KEY DETAILS:

  • Date: Tuesday, November 12, 2024 with work lasting approximately six (6) weeks.
  • Work Days: Monday through Friday with the exception of recognized City holidays
  • Work Times: 7 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Affected Areas: Sidewalks along North US Highway 98 from Beach Drive to the William T. Marler Bridge

IMPACT ON RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES:

  • Pedestrian Access: Sidewalk closures will limit pedestrian movement across the affected sections. We encourage all residents, business owners, and employees to plan accordingly for alternate routes.
  • Noise and Disruptions: Construction noise and minor disruptions are expected during working hours.
  • Business Access: Businesses located near the construction site will remain accessible and we will make every effort to minimize disruption to customer traffic.
