UNRWA Commissioner-General on Gaza: UNRWA’s Presence Is Critical for Peacebuilding and Social Resilience in Gaza

From Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA Commissioner-General as posted on his official X account (previously known as Twitter)

During the last two days at the MSC2026 I reiterated that UNRWA is an asset for peace in Gaza - the Agency is essential for providing public services and for building the capacity of Palestinian institutions.

We have the necessary workforce, expertise and community trust. UNRWA's personnel provide some 18,000 medical consultations each day and play a critical role in supporting public health by vaccinating children, supplying clean water and managing waste. We have brought more than 60,000 children back to in-person learning coupled with psychosocial support.
A ceasefire alone does not guarantee peace or stability. Palestinians in Gaza have the right to healthcare, education and other critical social services, which UNRWA is uniquely capable of providing.
