Enjoy summer offerings from the UW-Stevens Point Schmeeckle Reserve

Explore all the outdoor fun the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Schmeeckle Reserve has in store this summer.

Schmeeckle Reserve will host two "Nature Explorers" day camps June 16-26 and July 7-17 for children entering 3rd-6th grade. These camps will lead hands-on activities, including child-centered discovery hikes, wildlife watching, catching frogs and other pond animals, canoeing in the lake and more. Each camp will run Monday through Thursday from 1-4 p.m. for two weeks. Registration is $150 per two-week session for non-Friends of Schmeeckle members and $125 per two-week session for Friends of Schmeeckle members. Each session is limited to 20 children.

Performances of "Music in the Woods," a free music series sponsored by the Friends of Schmeeckle, will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays this summer in the Pankowski Friends Amphitheater near the Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center, 2419 North Point Dr., Stevens Point.

Concerts include:

• Tuesday, June 17 - Point of Jazz - These UWSP graduates express soulful energy through jazz standards, original works and modern compositions.
• Tuesday, June 24 - Moonhouse - This laid-back group delivers folkadelic Americana grooves through original music and covers.
• Tuesday, July 22 - CWSO Bassoon Quartet - The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra group brings the rich sound of bassoons together in a new way.
• Tuesday, Aug. 19 - Tom Pease - Pease celebrates nature and joy through his witty, high-energy music for kids of all ages.
