Experts Discussed Impact of Legal Education on Formation of Electoral Culture of Young People

On 7 May 2026, a meeting of the international youth discussion club "Tavricheskiy" was held at the Russian State Pedagogical University in the name of A. I. Herzen. The event's topic was "Historical Memory and Legal Education in the Formation of Youth Electoral Culture".

The event was organized by the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia and the Election Commission of the Leningrad Region.

Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat - IPA CIS IIMDD Director Ivan Mushket conveyed greetings from Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy and particularly emphasized the role of the family and school in fostering civic responsibility among future voters.

The meeting featured a substantive discussion involving experts, students and faculty members of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, members of the Election Commission of the Leningrad Region, members of the Working Group on Youth Policy in the Electoral Sphere under the CIS Advisory Board of the Heads of the Electoral Bodies, as well as staff members of the IPA CIS IIMDD.

Participants discussed the role of the education system in ensuring historical continuity, the formation of the foundations of electoral culture among children, and practical approaches to legal education.
