WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Chairman of the Senate Environmental and Public Works (EPW) Committee and a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for wastewater system upgrades and the decommissioning of a wastewater treatment lagoon in the Village of Barboursville in Cabell County, W.Va.
This award, which was secured through a CDS request made by Chairman Capito in Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23), will be used to upgrade the existing wastewater system and also fund the decommissioning of a wastewater treatment lagoon.
"As Cabell County and Barboursville continue to grow, the need for upgrades to water infrastructure is crucial. Securing funding from the EPA is one step in the process of directing resources to those that need it most," Senator Capito said. "As chairman of the Environmental and Public Works Committee and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am proud to utilize the CDS process to direct federal resources to projects that meet real needs in our communities and deliver long-term benefits for West Virginians."
