Blumenthal Statement After Meeting with Presumptive Trump Secretary of Education Nominee Linda McMahon

[WASHINGTON, DC] - U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement today after meeting with President-Elect Donald Trump's presumptive nominee to serve as Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon:

"Today, I made clear to Linda McMahon my strong opposition to President-elect Trump's plan to dismantle or eliminate the Department of Education. This step would threaten to destroy federal aid and accountability for American public education - severely threatening the quality of public schools for children all across the country. We share an interest in increasing resources for skills and workforce training, and I pressed the nominee on enforcing accountability for these programs so that students and employers really benefit. Among various issues, Ms. McMahon's apparent adherence to the Trump plan destroying her Department raises serious questions about her nomination."
