Commission meetings and hearings

On May 20, the Commission met in executive session.

The Commission voted to cancel the open meeting scheduled for May 22.

MUR 8254

COMPLAINANT: Brian Lemek, Defend the Vote
RESPONDENTS: Charlene for Congress 2024 and Stacy Owens, in her official capacity as treasurer (the Committee); Charlene Nijmeh; and Matt Ricchiazzi
SUBJECT: The complaint alleged that Ricchiazzi, a self-described citizen-journalist, made, and Nijmeh and the Committee knowingly accepted an unreported and excessive in-kind contribution in the form of a one-time "fake newspaper" that Ricchiazzi funded that supported Nijmeh, a 2024 candidate for California's 18th Congressional District. The complaint further alleged that Ricchiazzi produced and distributed an "Election Edition" of a publication called "The South Bay Chronicle" that had never before or since been published, which lacked an adequate disclaimer that expressly advocated for Nijmeh.
DISPOSITION: The Commission exercised its prosecutorial discretion and dismissed the complaint.

Litigation

Giffords v. FEC (Case No. 19-1192) On May 22, Movants the National Rifle Association of America and the National Rifle Association of America Political Victory Fund filed a Notice of Appeal in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

National Republican Senatorial Committee, et al. v. FEC, et al. (Case No. 24-621) On May 19, the Department of Justice filed a Brief for the Respondents in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Contribution Limits: In addition to the current limits, the Commission has posted an archive of contribution limits that were in effect going back to the 1975-1976 election cycles.
