BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University will hold the Funk Music in Popular Culture Conference from April 25 - 26 in Room 314 at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

Presented by the BGSU Department of Popular Culture, the free, public conference will provide attendees the opportunity to explore the funk music genre and its history and impact in society and popular culture.

On April 25, WBGU-PBS will present a special screening of the Independent Lens film "WE WANT THE FUNK!" at 6 p.m. in the BGSU Film Theater at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

The conference will culminate with a keynote presentation and musical demonstration by world renowned musician, bass player and producer Doug Wimbish at 3:30 p.m. on April 26 in the BGSU Film Theater.

Wimbish is primarily known for his work as a member of the Grammy Award-winning funk-based rock band Living Colour and the funk/dub/hip-hop collective Tackhead. He was also a member of the house band for acclaimed rap/hip-hop record label Sugar Hill Records, The Rolling Stones, On-U Sound Records and many other musical artists and groups.
