"Behind every policy is a dream, a goal, or a future someone is working hard to build. For 175 years, our policyowners have counted on MassMutual to be there to help them navigate important moments in life in an increasingly complex world," said Roger Crandall, Chairman, President and CEO at MassMutual. "Our record dividend payout is more than a milestone. It reflects the trust our policyowners place in us and our role helping people build security, wealth, and confidence."
MassMutual's ability to consistently deliver long-term value reflects the breadth and depth of its entire business. Through the company's disciplined approach to managing its insurance business, high quality, diversified investment portfolio that yields attractive returns, and powerful collection of strategic businesses and investments that broadens its sources of earnings, MassMutual has generated the strong, consistent financial performance to support its highly competitive dividend for its policyowners.
MassMutual's record dividend underscores the company's continued momentum. Since 2007, the year that MassMutual began paying an industry-leading dividend interest rate, the company has significantly expanded its whole life insurance market position, more than tripled total adjusted capital to over $37 billion,2 and paid more than $100 billion in insurance and annuity benefits3. Today, MassMutual protects more than $1 trillion of life insurance in force3 and maintains financial strength ratings4 among the highest in the industry.
"At MassMutual, our dividend has long been a reflection of delivering on our purpose of helping people secure their future and protect the ones they love," concluded Crandall. "We are proud of the role we have played in the lives of policyowners, customers, and communities we serve. Guided by our values, strengthened by our performance, and powered by our dedicated network of financial professionals, we will continue to be there when they need us most, delivering financial strength, security, and even greater impact in the years ahead."
